Why I Chose Sirius Over XM

By Anonymous

September 8, 2004 -- I was first introduced to satellite radio while visiting a Best Buy in Cincinnati. I had never heard of satellite radio and I had no idea what it was until I saw a large display promoting a company called XM. I began to read the brochure and my interest grew tremendously in this new type of radio. I loved the fact that I can listen to ESPN radio all the way home to Connecticut without having to keep changing AM frequencies every 2 hours. It wasn't only the ESPN radio that spurred my interest, it was all the music and talk stations that XM offered. In fact, XM offered 100 streams (stations) of all digital music and talk for just $10 a month.

I went online to find out more about XM radio. As I began to read about them, I began to read about their competitor, Sirius. Sirius also had over 100 digital streams of music, news, and talk, and yes, even ESPN radio. They offer many of the same streams as XM: Radio Disney, ESPN Radio, ABC & CNN News, Weather Channel, Local Traffic & Weather, Bloomberg Radio and several more. I also read that Sirius charges $13 for a month subscription. I began to read over the list of streams and programs offered by Sirius and I found myself in sports heaven. For the extra $3, I would get every NFL, NBA, and NHL game broadcast live in my car. Not only did they just broadcast the games, but they also have a live score ticker on the screen.

I went back to XM's website one last time to review the streams they offered. For $3 less a month, I would lose all the NFL, NBA, and NHL games but receive the NASCAR channel?

I have been a Sirius subscriber now for 7 months and have never looked back. Sirius has since added an additional 20 streams to bring the total to over 120. But I am not only just a happy Sirius subscriber, but also a Sirius stockholder.
