Satellite radio is up and running. This means nonstop music (beamed down from space, no less), no ads, and coast-to-coast reception -- learn how satellite
By Anonymous Club Asia has signed a contract with World Radio Network (WRN) to provide satellite uplink services for it’s re-vamped programming format. Club Asia is now the only radio service dedicated to second and third generation Asians, and is the most recent UK national radio station to broadcast on a Sky digital platform via Astra 2B.
Club Asia formerly broadcasted as London – based Radio Asia on 558AM. Broadcasting predominantly in English, rather than Hindi and Urdu, Club Asia offers contemporary programming that young Asians can identify with and a unique music mix of Bhangra, Bollywood, UK-produced Asian hits, remixed popular music from Pakistan and India, and mainstream R&B. The programming will be interspersed with regular news bulletins focusing on British Asian community issues and entertainment news.
“Sky digital is a natural platform for our expansion from a London-based AM-only broadcaster to becoming a national broadcaster reaching Asian communities across the UK. This further embrace of technology reinforces the fact that Club Asia is dedicated to providing an on-going service. WRN not only offered us a competitive price for uplink but will be able to put us on air within weeks of our initial enquiry.”
Sumerah Ahmad, - Station Director Club Asia
WRN will receive the Club Asia broadcasts from the station’s studios in Barking, London, for uplink to the Astra 2b satellite and transmission via a 128 Kbit digital stereo channel. With the major expansion of radio services on UK direct-to-home satellites, particularly Skydigital, WRN has the resources to offer a complete service from studio to audience including provision of an Electronic Programme Guide (EPG). The company currently provides satellite services for many international broadcasters including RTE Ireland on Astra 2b, Radio Sweden, Radio Canada International and America’s National Public Radio on Eutelsat Hotbird 5.
